When you slip back into old, negative thinking habits
Since I have been reading The Magic by Rhonda Byrne, I have seen how the power of gratitude has made a tangible difference in my life. However, I will admit that I got distracted and stopped my daily practices of gratitude for a little while.
Instead of beating myself up about slowly returning to some of my old, more negative thinking patterns, I just got right back to practicing gratitude in my life. This was truly a blessing for me, because I can now look back and see that there is a major difference in my life and well being when I am in a state of gratitude vs. when I am not!
You see, I was on a roll with being thankful. I was feeling increased happiness with each passing day. I really was seeing the glass as half full instead of half empty! Then I went on a little trip and stopped my daily gratitude practices for a little while.
After a couple of days, I noticed that I was starting to think a lot more negative thoughts. Instead of looking for the good in a situation, I would start to be more cynical and critical. This just snowballed and manifested into an overall unhappy feeling. Then I realized the reason why – I had stopped my daily gratitude exercises! I looked at myself, at my spirit, and connected the dots.
But it’s really amazing how quickly you can turn this around – within a couple of days! Just make sure that you are thinking or writing down exactly what you are thankful for, and then each night think of the best thing that happened to you that day – what you are the most thankful for.
Like definitely attracts like. So when you start to fall into those negative thinking habits again, make sure you realize that this will only attract more negative feelings and situations in your life. And instead of feeling guilty about having those negative thoughts, just start practicing gratitude again. It will make a difference in your life so quickly.
What are you thankful for?
