The Sound of Rain
So, it’s a Monday night and I find myself listening to the sound of rain. But it’s not raining here in Colorado – it’s actually going to snow tonight.
I grew up in Georgia, and I got used to hearing the sound of rain quite often. My mother used to say that she wanted a tin roof just so she could hear the rain even better.
Since it’s not raining here, I decided to find the sound of it on YouTube. I actually found a pretty good video that has the sound of rain, and it’s and hour long! That’s nice, because a lot of videos on YouTube are only around 10 minutes. Here’s the link to it if you want to hear it… sound of rain video
The sound of this rain causes me to feel a certain way. I don’t know how to describe it exactly, but it definitely makes me feel a kind of homey/cozy feeling. It makes me feel very relaxed and somehow open to new possibilities. I think sometimes when our thoughts are so occupied with the happenings of the day, our minds can be kind-of closed to new possibilities in our lives.
It’s a form of meditation I guess you could say – for me. Just to relax and take a moment to feel the true nature of your inner-self. The self that is not riddled with fear – the self that knows that everything will work out in the end. I always feel the most at peace when I am out in nature. Hiking, camping, having a picnic, or just driving through a natural setting like the mountains can cause me to feel a type of “ancient” grounding to nature.
We, as a culture, have really lost our connection with nature. And yet, we are part of it. This can really be detrimental to our spiritual well-being – and it affects some people more than others. Just think of how the ancient people used to depend so much on sky for their daily lives. And how they actually felt the ground under their feet – their bare feet – so much more often than most of us do.
Perhaps we can be more aware of the nature that does surround us. And maybe take some time to feel our connectedness to it.
I love the sound of nature including rain. Somehow when hearing the raindrop i feel really calm
